Starting in 1989, a tradition was started within the Mayo Football Team. Anytime Mayo beat their crosstown rival John Marshall, the game ball was given to the MVP of the game. When it happens, it is one of the highlights of the annual team banquet.
1989 - QB Corey Dahl 12 completions on 15 attempts for 157 yards passing in a 10 - 7 Mayo OT win.
1990 - RB Bryan Erickson 147 yards rushing on 17 carries in a 17 - 3 Mayo win.
1993 - Coach Ralph Pucci In his final season as head coach after 22 years, Mayo beat the #2 state-ranked Rockets 13 -7.
1995 - DE Nick Tietjen Lead the Mayo Defense to a 20 - 0 shutout of JM, Mayo's first-ever shutout of JM.
1997 - RB Curt Jepsen 244 yards rushing on 29 carries in a 29 - 8 regular season win over JM.
1997 - Nate Mielke Scored 1 TD & intercepted 2 passes in Mayo's 24 - 21 OT Section Final victory over JM.
1999 - Brent Picker 110 yards rushing on 10 carries in Mayo's 29 - 22 regular season win over JM.
1999 - QB Isaac Kieffer 175 yards passing in Mayo's 35 - 21 Section Semifinal victory over JM.
2001 - Awarded to the Mayo Team Defense for their overall performance in Mayo's 26 - 13 victory over JM.
2002 - FB/LB Brent Johnson Scored 2 TDs and had an outstanding defensive effort in Mayo's 20 - 6 win over JM.
2003 - FB Nick Larson 145 yards rushing on 19 carries, 90 yards receiving on 3 receptions & scored 1 TD in a 42 - 6 win.
